Discover the passion of sailing and, what for some, becomes a way of life. Trident Sailing Academy offers both introductory as well as advanced ASA certification courses. Our well-qualified sailing instructors are licensed through the U.S. Coast Guard as well as certified instructors through the American Sailing Association. Our goal is to share our passion and provide students with the tools and resources necessary to become competent sailors on both the lake as any body of water.

Nicholas - Captain

Captain Nicholas (Nico) Trevino has been sailing since the age of 10 and has been racing for over 12 years in both lake sailing events as well as the open ocean. He carries a U.S. Coast Guard Master Captain’s license as well as his American Sailing Association certified instructor certification.

He has raced on both coasts as well as actively competed in the Harvest Moon Regatta; a 145 nautical mile race across the Gulf of Mexico. Aside from racing and teaching, he also is available for sailboat deliveries and was required to shine last year when pursued by twin hurricanes Marco and Laura in the Gulf during the delivery of a 51’ sloop.

Paul - Captain

Paul started sailing in the late 70’s on the Gulf of Mexico. He obtained his USCG Captain License (OUPV) in 2014 and (50 GRT Masters) in 2019 and became an ASA instructor in 2018. Among his many accolades, he has sailed and raced off the southern coast of Norway, the UK, Australia, Sardinia, France, and the Caribbean.

Yvonne - CFO

With over 25 years of experience with a Fortune 500 company Yvonne brings her business expertise to Trident’s daily operations.

Yvonne has been a partner to Nicholas Trevino for over 12 years and takes pride in being able to offer sailing opportunities through Trident to people interested in all levels of sailing. She has been a part of the sailing community, gaining knowledge through numerous sailing adventures and excursions alongside her husband, Nicholas for many years and gaining knowledge through observation and participation with him.

She is super excited to work along side her husband to offer an amazing sailing experience.

Sailing Academy Courses

Online Intro to Sailing

This online sailing course introduces the fundamentals of sailing including important vocabulary, safety skills, and how sailboats work. By completing the lessons in this online course you will be ready to report to an American Sailing school for on-the-water sailing lessons.

ASA 101, Basic Keelboat Sailing

Learn to skipper a 20' - 27' sloop-rigged keelboat by day, in light to moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn basic sailing terminology, parts and functions, helm commands, basic sail trim, points of sail, buoyage, seamanship and safety including basic navigation rules to avoid collisions and hazards.

ASA 103, Basic Coastal Cruising

Learn to skipper a sloop-rigged auxiliary powered 25'-35' keelboat by day in moderate winds and sea conditions. Learn cruising sailboat terminology, basic boat systems, auxiliary engine operation, docking procedures, intermediate sail trim, navigation rules, basic coastal navigation, anchoring, weather, safety and seamanship.

ASA 104, Bareboat Cruising

Learn how to sail a sloop-rigged, auxiliary powered 30'-45' sailboat during a multi-day cruise upon inland/coastal waters in moderate/heavy winds and sea conditions. Learn about provisioning, boat systems, auxiliary engines, advanced sail trim, coastal navigation, anchoring / mooring, docking, emergency operations, weather, and more.
